Jenkin Rebuilding Project
Since moving to Loweswater in 2004 most of that time has been spent in two phases of work on this house which has been in David's family in one form or other for about 100 years.
Obtaining planning permission
This was a long and drawn out affair but eventually, despite the best efforts of the parish council, we got there in the end. Thankfully the planning officers, and those people who would actually be affected by the changes - our nearest neighbours were very supportive. Those involved know who they are (and perhaps should look at the before and after pictures below and reflect) - thanks to those who helped.
Extending the home
Also a long drawn out process - things do not generally happen very fast in the building trade at the best of times - add in the Cumbria effect and it slows down even further - but the banter with the builder - David's cousin was great and will be sadly missed.
The downstairs area was originally a storage area and at one time the village shop, however it was only 6 foot high. In order to free the space it was necessary to dig down & underpin the whole house - hence the extensive earthworks.
Before
After - well nearly three years it's finished - probably quite quick for Cumbria though.
