Slovenian Alps
Situated to the east of the better known Dolomites, the Julian Alps offer spectacular climbing and winter sports.
Bled is the main town in the area- most will not have heard of the name but will recognise the iconic view - surely the most spectacular site for rowing championships.

Like the Dolomites they are also limestone, offering som spectacular ridges but also some loose rock, and some interesting situations for climbing huts.

Mount Triglav (centre background) is the highest point in Slovenia - all Slovenians are expected to climb it - hard to imagine that happening on Scafell Pike

Approach to Triglav summit is very exposes (think Sharp Edge & multiply) so is protected by via ferrata, although most fatalities have been due to lightening strikes - we were OK with the weather.

Summit complete with steel cabin and drink seller (who carries everything up with him each day) and ritual lashing with rope (yes really) for all first ascenders in case they get above themselves.

Some relief to get back to easy paths, along with soap and water on the way down - oh and lashings of beer.
